Writing Styles
For one of my classes, our teacher asked us to jot down a few sentences about what we thought our writing style was. This led me to think about what I think the perfect and ideal combination of styles would be:
- Haruki Murakami’s brilliant and edgy sentences (Kafka on the Shore)
- Gabriel García Márquez’s magical realism (One Hundred Years of Solitude)
- Khaled Hosseini’s social and human portrayals (The Kite Runner)
- Anita Nair’s beautiful images (Mistress)
- Audrey Niffenegger’s, Anita Shreve’s & Tiffanie DeBartolo’s romance (The Time Traveler’s Wife, Fortune’s Rocks, God-Shaped Hole)
- Antoine de Saint Exupéry’s philosophy (The Little Prince)
- Philippa Gregory’s historical details (The Other Boleyn Girl)
Maybe I’ll think of more later. Or maybe I’ll change my mind and take some authors out. But to me, that would make for an AMAZING book.
Having read Murakami, Marquez,Antoine de Saint Exupéry and Hosseini, I can attest to the fact that they are brilliant. I even like Paul Auster, JM Coetzee, Arundhati Roy, Albert Camus, Naguib Mahfouz and Margaret Atwood.
